Jibal Solidarity Fund Emergency Work Update

Jibal has been supporting community kitchens that supply displaced communities with meals, as well as supporting farmers with food parcels and cash and playing a coordination role within the grassroot support community.

Summary: What Was Done So Far (Updated May 10th 2026)

Total contribution to meals to date to 44,620 meals, 3000USD cash support for farmers, and 40 food parcels in collaboration with Agromovement, in addition to sourcing food from farmers and co-ops struggling as a result of the war in collaboration with Dekken El Mazraa.

Breakdown: Where The Support Went

Weeks 4, 5, and 6

Community Kitchen Support:

We added an in-shelter kitchen in Borj Hammoud which will be replacing the Reyhan central kitchen which has seized its operations this week. The following was provided:

  • Borj Hammoud Shelter: Provided dry material for 5,600 meals.
  • Evangelical School Shelter (Hamra): Provided 5,400 meals.
  • Migrant Community Central Kitchen (Daoura): Provided  1,800 meals, cooking gas, and volunteer transportation costs.
  • Reyhan Central Kitchen (Ashrafieh): Provided 50 meals and covered volunteer transportation costs.
  • Raseef Beirut Central Kitchen (Hamra): Provided cooking oil, rice, burghol and fresh produce to support the preparation of 15,200 meals.

Farmer Support:

  • Direct Cash Support: We provided 4 farmers from the South who have been directly impacted by the war (losing land and/or crops) with direct cash support.
  • Food Parcels to the South: 40 food parcels procured from co-ops in coordination with Agromovement

Sourcing from Farmers:

We procured the following agroecological produce from local farmers into the kitchens we support. The fresh produce provided to kitchens was sourced from agroecology farmers through our partner Dikken el Mazraa (social grocery), with some produce co-purchased between us and Dikken and additional produce fully donated by Dikken.

  • Green Fava 100kg – Potatoes 70kg – Lemons 50Kg – Potatoes 70 Kg – Cabbage 40 Kg – Olive Oil 2 Liters – Lentils 10 Kg – Lettuce 30 Kg – 150 Eggs – Avocado 10 Kg – Tomato Paste 5 Kg
  • The following were donated by Dikken El Mazraa : Oranges 10Kg – Lemons 10 Kg – Carrots 40 Kg 

Coordination:

Jibal is continuing as in previous weeks with its coordination role among central kitchens, shelters, and volunteers along with other grassroot initiatives. 

Week 3

Community Kitchen Support:

  • Evangelical School Shelter (Hamra): Provided 1,800 meals for 360 residents.
  • Migrant Community Central Kitchen (Daoura): Provided 600 meals cooking gas, and covered volunteer transportation costs.
  • Reyhan Central Kitchen (Ashrafieh): Provided 420 meals, cooking gas and covered volunteer transportation costs.
  • Raseef Beirut Central Kitchen (Hamra): Provided cooking oil, rice and fresh produce to support the preparation of 4,800 meals.

Sourcing from Farmers:

We procured the following agroecological produce from local farmers into the kitchens we support. The fresh produce provided to kitchens was sourced from agroecology farmers through our partner Dikken el Mazraa (social grocery), with some produce co-purchased between us and Dikken and additional produce fully donated by Dikken.

Coordination:

Jibal continued as in previous weeks with its coordination role among central kitchens, shelters, and volunteers along with other grassroot initiatives.

Week 2

Community Kitchen Support:

  • Evangelical School Shelter (Hamra): Provided 600 meals for 360 residents.
  • Migrant Community Central Kitchen (Daoura): Provided 600 meals and covered volunteer transportation costs.
  • Reyhan Central Kitchen (Ashrafieh): Provided 300 meals.
  • Raseef Beirut Central Kitchen (Hamra): Provided cooking oil to support the preparation of 2,100 meals.

Sourcing from Farmers:

We began integrating agroecological produce from local farmers into the kitchens we support, while continuing to bridge the gap between small-scale farmers, shelters, and the Dikken El Mazraa social grocery.

Coordination:

Jibal remained a key facilitator, coordinating between central kitchens, shelters, and volunteers to ensure resources are allocated where they are needed most.

Week 1

Community Kitchen Support:

Jibal used the funds you donated to support 2 shelter kitchens and 2 central kitchens distributing food to shelters for forcibly displaced communities in Beirut by providing them with dry food material and fresh produce required for their meal preparation, in addition to some additional needs like water and propane canisters for cooking. Here is a full list of what this kitchen support provided:

  • Evangelical School Shelter in Hamra (sheltering 200 people): Provided 400 meals.
  • Migrant Community Central Kitchen in Daoura (preparing meals for 150 people): Provided 600 meals, water, and cooking gas canisters.
  • Reyhan Central Kitchen in Ashrafieh (preparing meals for 150 people): Provided 150 meals.
  • Raseef Beirut Central Kitchen in Hamra (preparing meals for 600 people): Provided Rice for 4,200 meals.

Food sourcing from farmers:

Jibal connected agroecology farmers who are struggling to sell their harvest, with multiple shelters across Beirut who are in need of produce, and with the social grocery Dikken El Mazraa.

Coordination among kitchens and shelters:

Jibal also facilitated coordination among central kitchens, shelters, and volunteers within a collective of organizations and individuals working on kitchen support on the ground.
